ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jane Dashley is an emerging self-taught painter living in Dallas, Texas. Alongside a career in fashion, she has kept up a life-long drawing practice and began painting in acrylics in 2020.
Jane populates the vibrant and playful world of her paintings with mischievous creatures and animals, rendered in bold fantastical tableaux. A passion for folk art and Japanese toys passed down to her from her mother inform her style and subject matter. Flighted cats, anthropomorphic bears, and dragons form their own mythology in her work. Her exuberantly colorful layered paintings are inspired by discarded advertising materials, textiles, and children’s media. Saccharine and dynamic, her dream-like work evokes a sense of happiness bordering on delirium.
Her work is held in private collections across the world and has been exhibited in the African American Museum of Dallas and will be included in an upcoming show at Gattopardo gallery in Los Angeles. She has also collaborated artistically with clients like fashion designer Reed Krakoff and ShoeMint.
